Abstract
Tumor necrosis factor(TNF), cachetin and lymphototzin are structurally related cytokines secreted by marcrophage and T-lymphocytes. These cytokines have cytostatic sand cytotoxic effects on certain animal and human tumors. Recently, the linkage of TNF genes to the HLA-B locus of human major histocompatibility complex(HI~1C~ genes, and an Nco I polymorphism in the first intmn of the human TNF-A and TNF-B was identified.
In this study, 18 patients with medullary type of Thyroid gland cancer, rare but highly malignant and 45 patients. of papillary type cancer with high frequency and low malignancy were chosen to observe their clinical process and to examine the polymorphism of TNF-A and TNF-B loci.
TNF-A genotypes did not show any remarkable difference compsu~ed with the controls in both groups.
In TNF-B genotypes, the TNF-B1(INF-B1 genotypes showed higher frequency than the controls in the patients with papillary cancer(P<0.001), on the contrary, the ;lower frequency of TNF-B2/tNF-B2 genotypes showed(P<0.05) in the patients with medullary cancer, TNF-B1~I¢¥NF-B1 genotypes showed high frequency(P<0.05)(Table 1)
